I may have finally 'chosen a color'

I have over 10 books about ethnography and ethnographic methods.  Of course, I was able to read only two of them, but I did browse the others for the most part.  Regardless, I found (in my opinion in this moment in time) a gem by Karen O'Reilly, simply titled, "Ethnographic Methods".  It was with this book that I decided to start to work on the "methods" section of my "methodology/methods" chapter, which is the goal for this course.  Although I have never written a chapter of a dissertation, I was able to write an IRB, which was helpful in writing my methods section.  This text has many ideas that I found relatable and understandable, and it hit me that I could possibly align myself  with this author.  Coincidentally, she references Hammersley and Atkinson (who I felt I could 'align with' after reading the piece for class).  I may have found a 'home', or to refer to an earlier post, 'picked a color'. (I discussed an analogy of finding a researcher that I aligned myself with to choosing a color of paint for my house, which can be a long and agonizing decision for me) Of course, even with the 10+ ethnography books I have in my possession, not one of them has Hammersley anywhere in them (save O'Reilly).  Needless to say, I will be returning to the library post-haste in order to be able to complete my entire chapter by semester's end.

  1. Funny enough - Saldana cites another author who uses the "home decorating" analogy for revising coding schemes - you may be able to relate to that. Glad to hear that you have a start on writing - it's definitely the time of the semester to stop reading and start writing!
